Abstract

<FORM:0429352/III/1> Air is ionized by passage over the surface of a liquid such as water partially filling a vessel which is electrically charged and also heated. The charged vapour particles are carried off in the air stream. Alternatively, containers 70, 70<1> filled with sand are oppositely charged and heated. Liquid is sprayed in from nozzles 73. Air enters through dust and ion interceptors 71 and may pass through a charged grid 74 before passing to the outlet pipes. The ion content can be regulated by interceptors 79. A current of air charged with dust can be introduced through a pipe 80 forming nuclei to which the ions attach themselves. In a further construction air is passed through a charged grid down which water trickles or moistened air passes through a heated charged grid.
