Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit the complete separation and regeneration of anion-and cation- exchange resins by treating the both ion exchange resins mixed layer at two stages in a specific condition using the upward flow of a NaOH solution.
CONSTITUTION: A 2 to 8% NaOH solution 7 is introduced into the regenerting tower 6 filled with anion- and cation-exchange resins mixture from the bottom side at an upward flow rate(LV) of 0.5 to 4 m/H (1st process), whereupon the anion exchange resin layer 4 is separated on the upper side, the fine cation exchange resin layer K on the intermediate side, and the cation exchange resin layer 3' on the lower side. Then, a NaOH solution 8 (usually 10 to 20%) having a density equivalent to that between anion exchange resin and cation exchange resin is introduced into the lower side of the tower 6 at a low flow rate(LV) of 2m/H or less(2nd process), whereupon the anion exchange resin layer 4 is separated on the upper side of the liquid layer 9, and also the fine resin layer K and the cation exchange resin layer 3' are separated on the lower side.
