Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the rate of regeneration by providing water collecting and distributing pipes in the upper and lower part of the mixed ion exchange resin regenerating tower and providing two water collecting and distributing collectors in the specified positions of the separating interface of both ion exchange resins.
CONSTITUTION: The mixed ion exchange resins in the regenerating tower are backwashed by upward flow and both anion and cation exchange resin layers 7, 8 and mixed layer 9 of both are formed by gravity sedimentation. Upper and lower water collecting and distributing collectors 4, 5 are provided in the mixed layer 9 in the range shown by the formula (l1, l2; the layer heights of anion and cation exchange resin layers, d1, d2; the distance between the upper collector 4 and lower collector 5 and the resin separating layer). An aqueous NaOH solution is introduced as a regenerating agent from the upper water collecting and distributing pipe 2 and is recovered to the upper collector 4. At the same time, desalted water is flowed to the collector 4 from the lower water collecting and distributing pipe 3 to prevent the regenerating agent from contacting the cation resins, whereby the regeneration of the resin layer 7 is accomplished. The regeneration of the resin layer 8 is accomplished by introducing an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution as a regenerating agent through the pipe 3, recovering the same in the lower collector 5 and passing the desalted water to the collector 5 from the pipe 2 simultaneously.
