[Class 8 (i)] The flow of gas through measuring and absorption vessels is effected by rise and fall of liquid, e.g. mercury in vessels q, s. The liquid is forced into the vessels by a plunger a actuated by a cam h driven by a motor k. At the end of the down stroke a lever l carrying a mercury switch engages a notch in a disc i rotating with the cam, and stops the motor. The plunger rises solely by the buoyancy of the liquid, which flows back through a restricted orific o, until a projection from the plunger rod engages the lever, thus causing the motor to restart.
