Abstract

428,498. Liquid lenses. BRAUNE, A., Artern, Saxony, Germany. April 17, 1934, No. 11603. [Class 75 (ii)] The lower end of an electric lamp bulb n is enclosed by a lens-shaped liquid container a which is separated by an air circulation space f from an inner air-evacuated container d the lower portion of which is in contact with the end of the bulb and the middle and upper portions of which are separated from the bulb by a second air circulation space. In a modification the container d is ring shaped. The container a may be flattened as shown at t, it may be bulged laterally and drawn in centrally as shown at u, whilst the liquid may consist of brine and may be coloured. The container a is fitted with a charging plug c and is connected to the container d by fusion or screwing, air holes being provided at g, h. These two containers may be suspended by cords or chains w or they may be supported on the bulb n by means of a screwedin glass or porcelain cover i or a metal cap k, provided respectively with rubber or like insulation l, m and air openings q, r. A reflector v also may be provided.
