Abstract
383,202. Liquid screens for lamps. STRASOLDO, L., Schwarzenbach, Post Strobl-on- Wolfgangsee, Austria. May 17, 1932, No. 14061. Convention date, May 16, 1931. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] In a screening device for vehicle lamps or searchlights, liquid is introduced into one or more glass-walled chambers from one or more rotatable storage vessels in communication with the chambers. The liquid may be adapted to produce a diffused or subdued light or it may be of yellow colour for fog-penetration purposes. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a chamber 10 is formed by glass panes 1, 2 fitted into an annular frame 3 having a flange 4 by which it is rotatably mounted in a groove 6 on the lamp casing 5. The frame is fitted with two partitions 8 to form a storage chamber 7 which is provided with a filling and emptying plug 10a and ports 9 which allow the liquid to fill the chamber 10 when the frame 3 is rotated into an inverted position. A number of such chambers and storage vessels containing differently coloured liquids may be arranged one behind the other for independent operation, or the frame may be formed with a number of storage chambers adapted to release differently coloured liquids into a single chamber or into a number of chambers. The panes may be wholly or partly plane, grooved, ribbed or the like, or they may form lens-shaped or prismatic chambers to refract the beam downwardly, as shown in Fig. 7. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the chamber 13 surrounds the electric lamp bulb and is rotatably mounted in a bearing 17, being connected to a storage vessel 15 by means of pipes 14, 16. The storage vessels may be rotated by hand by means of a handle 12, or from the driver's seat by means of cords and pulleys or levers, or by electromagnetic or compressed air devices.
