Abstract
243,686. L³hr, W. Nov. 27, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vehicle l a m p s ; lantern screens; lighting, systems of.- In an arrangement for protecting the eyes of the drivers of two approaching vehicles from dazzle, the lamps of each vehicle are provided with means for changing the colour of the projected beams to one or the other of two complementary colours, and each driver is provided with two observation screens of corresponding colours so that he may observe the opposing beam through a screen of complementary colour to that of the beam. For varying the colour of the beam, each vehicle may be furnished with lamps of two colours, or two different coloured bulbs may be fitted in one casing as illustrated at H in Fig. 4, or a single lamp may be fitted with coloured screens, lenses containing liquids or gases, or other colour-changing means. The drivers' screens may be locked in an operative position by springs, an electric circuit preferably being completed on raising either screen to the operative position so as automatically to bring into use on the vehicle the colour-changing means of the same colour. In order to maintain the same illuminating intensity of the beam when its colour is changed from a light colour, e.g. yellow, to a darker complementary colour, e.g. blue, the candle-power of the lamp is adjusted by hand or automatically, e.g. by varying the resistance in the lighting circuit.
