Abstract
427,254. Electric incandescent lamps. DOWNER, G. V., 5, Lansdowne Place, Guilford Street, London. Oct. 8, 1934, No. 27540/33. [Class 39 (ii)] The wall of the bulb is indented towards the luminous element in an area where the radiation is stronger than is necessary for optimum distribution, the sides of the indentation being formed to reflect a part of the light incident upon them. In one form, the bulb 1 is furnished with an indentation 4 surrounding the filament 3 and having its apex in the plane of the filament. In addition, the sides of the indentation may be furnished with a diffusing band by sand-blasting, etching or painting, or with a total or partial reflecting surface. The diffusing band may be graduated at its edges. The indentation may be slightly above or below the plane of the filament. In a modification, two vertical trough-like indentations may be furnished down the sides of the bulb or a trough-like or conical indentation may be furnished on the under side of the bulb.
