Abstract

387,443. Luminous signs. SMITH, H. O., 1, Tyndall Street, Surrey Hills, near Melbourne, Australia. Nov. 16, 1931, No. 31768. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1930. [Classes 3 (i) and 3 (ii).] A lamp for use in advertising &c. has a linear source of light 4 disposed along the focal axis 3 of an elongated parabolic reflector 1, and is provided with plane reflectors 8 at each end of the parabolic reflector, so as to reflect light reflected in endwise directions from the parabolic reflector on to the surface to be illuminated. The source of light is an electric lamp or lamps with a linear filament or filaments, or a neon tube. A reflector 9 inclined to the surface 7 may be provided as shown in Fig. 1 so as to reflect back on to the surface 7 light reflected up from the latter. This additional reflector may extend from the upper edge of the parabolic reflector to the edge of the illuminated surface, which is made translucent. In the form shown in Fig. 3, inclined translucent panels 10 extend from the edges of the reflector 1. In another form, Fig. 5, two parabolic reflectors 1 are provided at opposite edges of the surface 7, and the lamps 4 may be of the same or different colours. In the latter case, they may be lit either alternately, or separately, and then simultaneously. The illuminated surfaces may carry advertisements or signs.
