Abstract

457,863. Lamps for direct or indirect illumination. DOWNER, G. V., 5, Lansdowne Place, Guilford Street, St. Pancras, London. June 5, 1935, No. 16371. [Class 75 (iv)] In a lighting unit for direct or indirect illumination, a trough or like elongated casing housing a light source 1 has a reflecting inner surface 3 and a reflector or reflectors 5, 7 forming a ridge or ridges extending transversely round the inside of the trough and surrounding the light source on at least three sides of the latter, the sides of the ridge or ridges converging from the inner surface of the trough towards the source so as to reflect light towards the ends of the trough. A further reflector 6 with inclined sides may be arranged below the light source so as to complete the ridge on the fourth side. The reflectors 5, 7 may be formed as indentations in the base and sides of the trough. The reflectors may be mirrored or matt-white. The open side of the trough may be covered with transparent or translucent material.
