Abstract

426,799. Vanity cases. METHVEN, H. M., The Croft, Penshurst Gardens, Edgware, Middlesex. Oct. 10, 1933, No. 27942. [Class 18] [See also Group XXV] A vanity case comprises a tray-like portion a, Fig. 2, a hinged lid f, and a substantially cylindrical powder compartment g which, when the lid is open, communicates with the tray a through a slot e level with the adjacent part of the bottom of the tray. Either the lid or the tray carries a member for closing or opening the slot according as the lid is shut or open. When the lid is open, powder can be shaken from the compartment g into the tray. As shown, the slot-obturating member is formed by retroverting the end h of the lid. The lid is provided with a mirror j and with circular flanges d, Fig. 5, which close the ends of the cylinder g and are beaded over into grooves in the cylinder to constitute a hinge for the lid. The tray may have a lining soldered &c. therein, this lining being provided with outwardly directed flanges on three sides over which the lid flanges can engage, and with a tongue which projects into the slot e and facilitates the return of excess powder from the tray to the compartment g. In a modification the lid is formed with the compartment g, Fig. 7, and the slot e and a portion of the tray forms the obturator h. The case is made of sheet metal.
