Abstract
425,727. Blowpipe burners. JAGFELD, J., 17, Litzmannstrasse, Rheydt, Germany. May 7, 1934, No. 13735. [Class 75 (i)] An injector burner more particulary for autogeneous metal working is formed with a mixing chamber for oxygen and fuel gas which chamber communicates with one or more closed hollow spaces in such manner that the mixture acts with a suction effect on the mouths of the hollow spaces. Oxygen and fuel gas pass from pipes 2 and 9 under the control of valves 4 and 11 into pipes 5 and 12 leading respectively to the oxygen nozzle 6 and an annular space 13 from which latter the fuel gas is drawn into the mixing chamber 7. The mixture flows from the chamber 7 by way of a nozzle 17 intc a second mixing chamber 18 drawing with it air from an annular space 15 surrounding the chamber 7 and communicating with the atmosphere by way of apertures 16. A closed annular space 23 surrounds the chamber 18 and the combustible mixture as it passes from the chamber to a pipe leading to the burner tip 21 exerts a suction effect on and continuously evacuates the chamber 23. In a modified form the intermediate mixing chamber and surrounding annular space communicating with the atmosphere are dispensed with. If during operation throttling occurs due to overheating of the burner tip, the throttling acts primarily on the evacuated space 23 and only to a small extent on the mixing chamber 18 so that the injector action and the composition of the combustible mixture remain substantially constant. In addition back firing would be extinguished in the space 23.
