473,111. Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces. HILLEBRAND, P. Nov. 2, 1936, No. 29787. Convention date, Jan. 30. [Class 51 (i)] In a melting furnace with gas and oil firing, the gas and oil burners are spatially separated and so arranged one above the other that the flames from the oil burner or burners 6, 7 are directed immediately over the charge and the flames from the gas burner 5 are located above the oil flames. Similar arrangements of burners are employed at each end of the furnace so that the direction of the flames may be reversed. The oil burners may operate with reducing flames or non-reducing flames. The oil supply to the burners is controlled by varying the stroke of the oil supply pump.
