Abstract
S-Alkyl and S-aryl isothioureas or salts thereof are used in aqueous baths for the treatment of animal, vegetable or artificial fibrous materials. The S-decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl and hexadecyl derivatives are frothing agents and have wetting properties, while the higher members, e.g. S-tetradecyl and hexadecyl isothioureas are suitable for washing wool in acid baths. The use of the salts of the S-alkyl and aryl isothioureas in dyeing with basic dyes is mentioned. Dodecyl isothioureahydrobromide may be prepared by heating dodecyl bromide with thiourea. Substituted derivatives may similarly be obtained by using halogenated compounds such as halogen fatty acid esters, e.g. monobromacetic acid decyl ester, glycolchlorhydrin fatty alcohol ethers, e.g. glycolchlorhydrin dodecyl ether and aromatic halides, e.g. 4-hexahydrobenzoylamino - 2 - amino - 1 - brombenzene (obtained from hexahydrobenzoylchloride and 1 - brom - 2 : 4 - diaminobenzene). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of the S-alkyl and aryl isothioureas as dispersing agents. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the use of S alkyl and aryl isothioureas or salts thereof, as dispersing agents. Compounds having the following formulae are mentioned: NH2.CSC14H29 : NH, NH2.CSC16H33 : NH, [NH2.C SC2H4OC12H25 : NH] Ac, [NH2.C S C2H4OOC12H23 : NH]Ac, NH2.C.S.CH2COOC10H21 : NH]Ac, [NH2. - C S C6H3.NH2.NHCOC6H13 - NH]Ac. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
