Abstract
318,070. Imray, O. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 27, 1928. Oil tanning; finishing.-Liquor for tanning or stuffing leather is prepared by agitating a fat or oil with an aqueous solution of an alkyl cellulose such as methyl cellulose. Unsaturated fatty oils such as train oil or oils or fats having no specific tanning properties may be used, e.g. rape oil, bone oil, tallow, mineral oil and paraffin oil. Examples describe the use of the following mixtures :-(1) Train oil and dimethyl cellulose. (2) Neats-foot oil and dimethyl cellulose. (3) Mineral oil or mineral oil and bone oil and dimethyl cellulose with a wetting agent such as sodium dibutylnaphthalene sulphonate. (4) Wool fat dissolved in carbon tetrachloride and dimethyl cellulose. (5) A mixture of train oil and egg oil with a small proportion of sulphurized train oil and methyl cellulose.
