Sizes. - Fabrics and fibrous materials are treated with a salt fishing-agent such as a solution of Epsom salts and dextrine to which is added an emulsion of a lustre-producing agent such as paraffin wax, stearic acid, &c., the emulsion being stable with respect to the salts. The paraffin wax &c. may be emulsified with the aid of an aromatic sulpho-acid, such as dipropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, or with highly sulphonated oils produced with an excess of sulphuric acid in the presence of inorganic or organic anhydrous acids, acid anhydrides, or acid chlorides,
