Abstract

Lipins or sterols (e.g. wool grease) or mixtures thereof in proportions up to 10 per cent, are added to latex containing more than 45 per cent of rubber, from which articles are to be made, e.g. by dipping. The formation of films, bubbles and foam in the latex is thereby avoided during working. Hydrocerin, containing cholesterol and lipins, and Boerocerin, which is a mixture of pure cholesterol and Hydrocerin may be used. The lipins &c. should preferably be dissolved in fats or oils, e.g. rape seed oil or petroleum jelly, emulsified with water or a liquid miscible with water, and the resultant emulsion is added to the latex.
