Abstract

A barium soap is made by saponifying a fatty substance with crystallized barium hydrate (Ba(OH)2.8H2O), for example, colza oil, tallow or a mixture thereof is heated in an autoclave with the calculated amount of crystallized barium hydrate.ALSO:A soap for use in preparing a consistent grease is made by saponifying a fatty substance with crystalliized barium hydrate (Ba(OH)2.8H2O). Colza oil, tallow or a mixture thereof is heated in an autoclave under pressure with the calculated amount of crystallized barium hydrate, and the resulting soap is dissolved or emulsified in mineral oil to form a grease.
