Abstract

Mineral oils are thickened by dissolving therein a cellulose ester of a saturated fatty acid having 12--18 carbon atoms in the molecule, such as cellulose stearate, palmitate or dilaurate. Preferably, esters containing two ester groups per molecule of cellulose (reckoned as C6H10O5) are used. The products are useful as lubricating-greases or as external medicinal emollients.ALSO:Emollients for external use are prepared by thickening mineral oils by dissolving therein a cellulose ester of a saturated fatty acid containing 12-18 carbon atoms in the molecule, such as cellulose stearate, palmitate or dilaurate. Preferably esters containing two ester groups per molecule of cellulose (reckoned as C6H10O5) are used.
