Abstract

A washing and cleansing composition which may be used as soap and may be mixed with abrasives, consists of a mixture of acid sludge sulphonate obtained from petroleum refining and an alkali or alkaline earth salt of an alkyl hydrogen sulphate containing at least 10 carbon atoms in the molecule. The latter bodies may be prepared from the alcohols obtained during the oxidation of paraffin wax by blowing through it air in presence of catalysts such as manganese compounds, boric acid &c. or may be the sodium salts of lauryl or stearyl hydrogen sulphate.
