Abstract

423,316. Cylinders. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., Richmond Road, Kingston-on-Thames, and NAYLOR, J. T., Motor Works, Hough Lane, Leyland, Lancashire. Oct. 31, 1933, No. 30214. [Class 7 (ii)] To cause swirling of the incoming charge a symmetrically-arranged lip 4 extends over the inlet valve 3 which is so located that the charge swirls about the cylinder axis. The lip is crescent-shaped in plan and has its top edge rounded to facilitate flow. An admission passage 5 slopes downwards and inwards towards the cylinder, and in a multicylinder engine two adjacent inlet valves are supplied by a common divergent passage.
