Abstract
421,622. Sewing - machines. CHARLES, W. H., and CHARLES, W. E., 29, Pennant Street, Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire. Aug. 8, 1933, No. 22130. [Class 112] An attachment for forming loose stitches for picot edging and hemstitching comprises a holder and guide member unattached to the machine and travelling with the material. The material e is laid face upwards on the machine bed f and lapped round the holder and guide a so that the needle h is above the slot b. The machine is then operated to form stitches in the slot b, the plate a moving with the work and being guided by the member i. The member i may be dispensed with. When the end of the slot b is reached, the presser g is lifted and the member a slid along the material and the operation resumed till the desired amount is completed. For hemstitching, the plate a is removed and the lap k cut along its fold l, Fig. 4, and the two parts e, e<1> swung over and hemmed as at n, Fig. 5. For picot edging, the lap l and the hemstitch are cut through leaving hanging edges of threads or small loops.
