[Class 80 (i).] A variable-motion drive mechanism for an intermittent paper feed in a printing-machine consists of an epicyclic gear-wheel a revolving freely on a drive disc e and gearing with a central gear-wheel c fixed to a shaft d which is capable of adjustment about its axis and is locked in position by an arm n and bolt o ; the disc e freely mounted on the shaft d is provided with a radial slot f in which an eccentric pin g on the gear a engages either directly or through the medium of a sliding block h, so that as the gear a revolves about the gear s the pin drives the disc e at varying speeds which are transmitted by chain- and-sprocket gearing to a segmental toothed gear i meshing with a gear on the shaft of the roller k to be driven, the adjustment of the shaft d being such that the speed of rotation of the gear i is lowest at the instant when the first tooth is engaging.
