Abstract
573,850. Printangmachines. HEBERLEIN & CO., AKT.-GES. June 15, 1943, No. 9538. Convention date, June 17, 1942. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Consists in mechanism for changing the peripheral position of a driving shaft in relation to a preferably concentrically mounted transmission shaft while at rest or in motion, and is particularly applicable to adjusting the " register '' in rotary printing machines. The impression cylinder 1, Fig. 1, is frictionally driven by one or more printing rollers 2, the journal 6 of one of which is keyed at 7 to a transmission shaft 5. The object of the invention is to change the angular position of the shaft 5 relatively to the pinion 4 which, together with other similar pinions if desired, gears with a wheel 3 loosely mounted on the shaft of the cylinder 1. The pinion 4 is secured by screws 15, Fig. 2, to a hollow shaft 14 which, at its other end, is secured by screws 17 to a casing 16 carrying ball bearings 18 on which runs a tubular member 19 to which is secured the stator casing 20 and stator 21 of a squirrel-cage motor loaded by a weight 11, Fig. 1, to take up any small reaction torque. An internally-toothed annulus 22 is secured to the housing 16, and a second annulus 24 with only a slightly different number of teeth is integral with a sleeve 25 keyed at 26 to the shaft 5 on which the pinion 4 is rotatably mounted. The annuli 22, 24 are engaged by toothed portions 28, 29 of a gear mounted on an eccentric portion 30 of a shaft 32, 33 adapted to be driven by the electric motor. Pinion 4 drives the shaft 5 and cylinder 2 through the epicyclic gear which, owing to its high ratio is irreversible, but independent rotation of shaft 5 may at any time be obtained by starting the electric motor which then drives through the epicyclic gear with great speed reduction to rotate the sleeve 25 and shaft 5. The epicyclic gear may be replaced by other forms of irreversible gearing and the electric motor by a water turbine or petrol engine.
