Abstract

557,156. Glass manufacture. KINKER, C. C. July 29, 1941, No. 1582/43. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1940. Divided out of 557,064. [Class 56] [Also in Group XXIV] Mechanism for producing intermittent rotary motion adapted for operating glasswareforming and other machines, comprises a rotatably mounted driven element provided with cam-engaging parts spaced circumferentially thereof and a gear element co-axial therewith, a driving mechanism comprising a cam assembly and a segmental or mutilated pinion adapted periodically to mesh with the gear element. The cam assembly successively engaging the cam engaging parts and thereby serving to accelerate, decelerate and stop the driven element during continued rotation of the driving means. The tables 40, 41 to be rotated intermittently are geared together and are actuated from a driving spindle 20a which carries a toothed segment 43, adapted to mesh with a gear ring 42 on the table 40, and a cam assembly consisting of two cams 44, 45. The cam 44 is heart-shaped, and the cam 45 is offset and follows the contour of the adjacent part of cam 44. The track 46 between the cams receives one of a number, e.g. six, of rollers such as D<SP>2</SP> carried by the table 40. The driving mechanism rotates through 315 degrees to move the table through a 60 degrees stage, the remaining 45 degrees being the period during which the table is locked. The cam first actuates a roller to accelerate the table and then the segment 43 takes up the drive at a uniform velocity, after which the other part of the cam carries on the drive with a retardation until the locking position is reached in which two rollers bear on opposed concentric parts of the cam. The rollers and toothed gear may be in action together or, when the toothed gear is driving, the corresponding parts of the rollers may be cut away to render them inactive. The mechanism drives the tables without shock and obviates backlash.
