Abstract

419,429. Safety cut - off valves. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., Luton.-(Assignees of Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.) July 20, 1934, No. 21302. Convention date, July 29, 1933. [Class 135.] A thermally actuated safety cut-off valve of the kind actuated by a vaporizable liquid acting on a diaphragm has the diaphragm of the snap - over type adapted to hold the valve either fully open or completely closed. The diaphragm 17 is made of slightly larger diameter than the cap 19 within it is clamped by turning over the edge of the cap and is clamped centrally between members 15, 15<1> screwed to the valve spindle, masses of solder being introduced at 18 and 21 to make the joints fluid tight. The diaphragm and cap are secured in a member 11 screwed to a pipe bend 10 by turning over the edge of the member 11. The valve member 13 is urged towards its seat 12 by a spring 16 arranged between the members 11, 15<1>. When a match is applied to the external surface of the cap 19, the liquid 23 is vaporized causing the diaphragm to snap over against the action of the spring 16 and so move the valve to the fully open position, thereafter the heat of the burner which is adjacent the cap 19 maintains the valve in the open position.
