Abstract
418,031. Door stops and holders. BAYFORD, P. M. S., Orleton, Oaklands Avenue, Esher, Surrey. July 13, 1933, No. 19866. [Class 65 (i).] A stop or holder for retaining a hinged door or gate in the open position comprises a bar slidable in a fixed guide or housing so as to be capable of projection into the path of the free edge of the door, means being provided intermediate the ends of the guide or housing and of the bar to limit the travel of the bar. In the form shown, the sliding member 7 is a rectangular block of wood and the housing 2 is formed of wooden parts built up on a base 1 which is provided with tenon bars 5 on its underside for embedding in cement or the like. A pin 9 fixed in the base 1 engages a recess 8 in the sliding block 7 to limit the travel of the block by contact with the ends of the recess. In a modification, the parts of the device are formed of metal, and the housing is replaced by a pair of n-shaped guides formed by pairs of bolts with connecting pieces at the top supported on ferrules on the bolts. The sliding member 7 may be of any section, and may be constituted by a tube with its ends plugged or capped with wood, rubber or any other suitable material. The device may be fixed on the ground or on any other support, and may be secured by bolts or in any other suitable manner ; it is reversible, so that either end may be used to engage the door.
