Abstract

417,971. Preventing refilling of drums &c. OWINGS, T. D., 36, Fremont Street, Valley Stream, Long Island, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 11, 1933, No. 28061. [Class 21.] The fraudulent refilling of drums &c. for transport or storage of oil, gasoline &c. is prevented by providing in a delivery pipe 2 a hinged check valve 3 opening outwardly under the suction of a delivery pump and having a central aperture 9 into which a plug 10 is screwed, such plug being removable for refilling by means of a key 13 which fits the plug and has a resilient pin in a projection 17 which engages a groove 11 in the plug. This pin may, alternatively, be carried by the plug and the groove by the key. To disengage the key on replacing the plug a central rod 22 in the key is depressed while the body of the key is pulled upwards. The plug may be provided with a pin upstanding from its top which engages a recess in the key. The upper end of the tube 2 may be closed by a plug 25, Fig. 2, and a vent 24 is provided. In a modified form separate filling and emptying tubes are provided one carrying a plug similar to that carried by the valve described above and the other having a valve without the plug.
