Abstract
464,419. Dispensing liquids. TAISHOFF, J., and SUTTON, G. J. Oct. 17, 1935, No. 28725. [Class 102 (ii)] [Also in Group XV] Relates to apparatus for dispensing liquids of the type in which the depression of a diaphragm 53, placed over the mouth of a container 50, causes liquid to be discharged through a tube 68 into a well 54 carried by the diaphragm. The invention consists in the operation of the diaphragm by the act of removing a closure 69. The diaphragm is secured to the container by means of a casing 57, which engages a flange 51 on the container, and the diaphragm is secured against a shoulder 55 on the well by means of a sleeve 56. The closure 69 has external lugs 70, which engage under a gapped flange 61 in the casing, and internal lugs 71, which engage helical grooves 63 on the exterior of the well 54. Rotation of the closure 69 to remove it causes depression of the diaphragm and of the well, and discharge of liquid into the latter. Rotation of the well is prevented by means of lugs 72 on a washer 59, which engage grooves 64 on the well. In a modification, the washer 59 is formed with a downwardly extending bevelled flange, which retains the diaphragm in its lower position, except when it is raised by the application of the closure 69.
