Abstract

417,819. Air compressors. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., Cranford Lane, Hayes, Middlesex, and FORSYTH, A. G., Venlaw, Burdon Lane, Cheam, Surrey. Nov. 23, 1933, No. 32805. [Class 8 (i).] An air compressor has a double acting piston comprising a pair of piston heads a formed integral with and separated by a box-like structure comprising two walls bb of a curvature corresponding with the diameter of the cylinder and two flat chord-like walls c spaced so that one is closer to the axis of the piston than the other. At the centre there are two transverse walls e which constitute guides for a sliding block f and the flat wall c which is nearer the axis is cut away for the purpose of entering the crank pin o into the block f. The main cylinder g is enlarged on one side and formed as a boss h in which are mounted the bearings for the crank shaft m. The piston heads a are recessed at q and the cylinder ends r are formed correspondingly at s and each carries inlet and outlet valves t and u, the outlet valves communicating by a passage v with a common outlet w which is furnished with a relief valve x. The inlet valves are carried by valve cages whilst the outlet valves are mounted directly in the cylinder heads.
