[Class 19.] A device for cleaning floors, windows, or similar surfaces comprises a body portion to which a strip of rubber of L, V, or similar section is attached, means being provided on the body portion to accommodate a detachable cleaning or polishing element. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a body 1 is provided with a strip of rubber 3 of angle section and has grooves 5 to receive a detachable cleaning element, for example a brush 4. The brush has a back plate engaging the grooves 5, one end of the plate being bent around the end of the body 1 and being adapted to return the brush in place by means of a slidable bolt 7 engaging a projection 8. The brush may be replaced by a cleaning element consisting of strips of felt 9, Fig. 3, clamped within a flanged plate 6. The body 1 has a socket 2 adapted to be detachably connected to a handle, which may consist of a number of sections, as shown in Fig. 4. A container 14 for polishing preparation may be attached to the handle, the preparation being fed through a nozzle 14<1> by rotation of a screw-threaded rod 15 counted to a plunger. Alternatively, the container may be of collapsable form, emptied by means of a winding key. A polishing pad as shown in Fig. 5 may be used in conjunction with this cleaning device shown in Fig. 1, the pad comprising fabric 21 stretched over a backing, and a detachable cover 18 formed with a groove 17 adapted to receive the squeezer 3 of the cleaning device, whereby the pad may be moved to and fro across the surface being treated.
