Abstract

422,309. Cleaning and polishing appliances. PHILLIPS, F., 217, Gloucester Road, Bristol. Feb. 22, 1934, No. 5870. [Class 19] An appliance for cleaning and polishing floors comprises a head 2, Figs. 2 and 3, adapted to receive a handle 9 and formed of trough shape to hold a folded rubber strip 3. Screws 5 pass through the strip into a strip of balata 4 which is riveted to the head 2. The appliance is adapted to be used with interchangeable brushes and pads, each being provided with battens 12 between which the strip of balata may fit and be held by friction. In a modification, two strips of balata are provided which are spaced apart to receive a batten on the back of a brush. In a further construction shown in Fig. 6, a curved metal plate 13 apertured to fit over the socket portion of the head 2 is secured to the head by a bolt and wing nut and is adapted to hold resiliently a brush 11 in position below the balata strip 4. The handle is in sections, one of which carries a tube of polish which can be extruded by means of a plunger.
