Abstract

417,373. Centrifugal machines. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR, 8, Fleming- gatan, Stockholm. May 18, 1934, No. 15110. Convention date, May 18, 1933. [Class 23.] In a centrifugal bowl 2 on the shaft 3 the separated solids are brought to peripheral discharge openings by means of a conveyer mounted on the spindle 5, and liquid is prevented from reaching the bearing 6 by means of a chamber 9 formed round the conveyer spindle. This chamber is formed between a flanged collar 8 on the spindle 5 and the internal lip 11 on the base of the bowl. A narrow opening 7 between the collar 8 and the base of the bowl connects the chamber 9 to the bowl space while the discharge outlets 10 are sufficiently large to prevent the liquid from reaching the top of the lip 11. In a modification the narrow opening 7 is formed between a flange on the bowl and the spindle 5, and the flanged collar 8 is arranged beneath the opening. In the further modification shown in Fig. 3, the sleeve 17 and the flanged collar 16 are arranged above the ball bearing 15, and a collar 21 projects into the space between them. The narrow opening 18 is formed between the flanged collar 16 and the bowl wall and channels 20 of large cross-section form outlets from the chamber 19.
