Abstract

415,880. Oil engines. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and MARKLAND, S., Hough Lane, Leyland, Lancashire. July 22, 1933, No. 20723. [Class 7 (iii).] A cylindrical combustion chamber 5 which is formed on one side of the cylinder head is connected to the cylinder 1, by a tangential passage 7 and has a fuel injector 8 which is arranged parallel to the axis of the combustion chamber close to its wall so that the fuel traverses the air which is moving most rapidly. The chamber may be formed in a plug 10, located in a recess in the head, which is mainly out of contact with the recess so that it is maintained at a high temperature. The axis of the chamber 5 may be horizontal or vertical, and a starting heater 9 may be arranged in the combustion chamber.
