Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In a Diesel engine in which a pre-ignition chamber is used for starting, the pre-ignition chamber d is located at one side of the cylinder head near to the wall of the cylinder and the igniter f passes into the chamber transversely through the cylinder head. The igniter may comprise a holder for glowing paper, an incandescent spiral, or a sparking plug. The fuel injection valve e may be cooled interiorly.
