Abstract

415,274. Spray producers. ENTREPRISE GENERALE DE CHAUFFAGE INDUSTRIEL PILLARD FRERES ET CIE, 5, Rue Colbert, Marseilles, France. Sept. 27, 1933, No. 26613. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1932. [Class 69 (iii).] Relates to means for recovering leakage past the piston in atomizers of the kind in which liquid is fed to a whirl chamber through tangential passages and then through a spray opening, the effective cross-section of the channels being variable either by displacement of a piston forming the rear face of the whirl chamber and uncovering progressively the said channels, or by the displacement of a piston uncovering, also progressively, orifices communicating with the tangential passages. The atomizer is provided with a vent co-axial with the outlet which, in the case where the piston forms one wall of the whirl chamber, is formed in the piston, and in the case where the piston controls the passage of liquid to the tangential passages and is divided from the whirl chamber by a fixed wall, is formed in the wall. Fig. 1 shows an atomizer suitable for a burner in which the supply is regulated by the pressure of the fuel. The whirl chamber 3 is provided with tangential ports 4 successively uncovered by the piston 2 which is moved by the pressure of the fuel against the action of a spring 5. Leakage past the piston is returned to the centre of the whirl chamber through an axial duct 6. A modification is described in which the piston 2 is hand operated. Fig. 5 shows a form in which ports 19 communicating with the tangential passages 6<1> are successively uncovered by a piston 101 acted on by the pressure of the fuel against a spring 18, leakage past the piston being led to the whirl chamber through an opening 12.
