Abstract
414,831. Preventing dimming of windscreens. TAYLOR, J. L., and TAYLOR, A. E., 10, Strand Street, Liverpool. April 7, 1933, No. 10407. [Class 20 (iii).] Relates to windscreens for use on ships, aeroplanes, motor-cars, railway-engines, &c. or on stationary structures, and of the kind having front and rear walls 11, 12 with sightopenings 15, 26 in line horizontally, the space between the walls being open to the atmosphere on opposite sides of the sight-openings and forming a conduit 27 through which a stream of air &c. passes which entrains any air &c. entering the front sightopening 15. According to the invention, the rear wall is in two angularly-adjustable portions 16, 21, the lower portion 21 being curved so as to direct the air passing through the conduit 27 in counter-current to the air entering the opening 15. The front wall comprises an upper glass sheet 13 and a lower inwardly directed glass sheet 14 while the flat and curved sheets 16, 21 of the rear wall are fixed between pairs of brackets 17, 22 adapted to be clamped in position by screw-and-nut devices 19, 20 and 24, 25. As shown in Fig. 3 the brackets 17, 22 are of H-section, the outer channel holding a rubber strip 30 which co-operates with a side glass sheet 31 mounted in the frame 10 to eliminate draughts. An adjustable closure piece may be provided for the opening 26. According to the Provisional Specification the main walls of the windscreen may be held by metal frame-members supported on a base member mounted on a column so as to be vertically adjustable thereon, the column being rotatably adjusted, and the side walls of the screen may project rearwardly to shield the head of the person using the screen.
