[Class 112.] Convenient interchange of throat plates in zig-zag or other sewing-machines is provided, to adapt the machine for use in darning, embroidering, &c. The ordinary throat plate 94, Fig. 4, with slots 91 for protrusion of the feed dog, is removed and replaced by a throat plate 104 such as shown in Fig. 6, which has a lifted part 105 to permit the feed dog to rise and fall but to prevent its contact with the work. Such a plate has only a needle hole 106. The machine bed plate 1 has an opening 98 of the same shape as, but slightly smaller than, the throat plates 94 104. The plates have a depending pin 100 which snaps into a recess 101 to lock the plate in position. A member 102 with depending spring wings 103 is secured to the underside of the throat plates. These wings engage the bevelled under side of the work support and yieldingly confine the plate to sliding movements in the guideway 99. To remove a throat plate, the pin 100 is sprung out of its slot by pressing upwards below the plate. It can then be slid out.
