[Class 74 (ii).] To produce the ladderproof fabric shown in Fig. 11 on machines using bearded needles a, such as the Cotton type, each course b of ordinary knitting is received in turn on instruments d, the points d<1> of which work in a groove a<1> in the needle stems. The ordinary groove for the beard point is lengthened for this purpose. The anti-laddering course e is sunk over the upper ends of the instruments and then received on the needle stems below the points d<1> while the course b gets under the beards. The course e, interlaced with the course b, is subsequently knocked over.
