Abstract

412,031. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and RYDE, J. W., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. May 22, 1933, No. 14760. [Class 39 (i).] Luminous tubes with a discharge in high-pressure metal vapour which arises from a body of metal strongly heated during the discharge but not forming an electrode are provided with one or more auxiliary electrodes facilitating starting of the discharge and each formed by a wire 5 sealed through the wall 1 of the tube and surrounded by a glass sheath 6. The sheath extends from the wall 1 to near that end 7 of the wire 5 adjoining the main thermionic electrode 2 and does not touch the wire 5 at the end 7. The wire 5 is connected to the other main electrode or another auxiliary electrode through a resistance of 50,000 ohms. Specification 384,119 is referred to.
