Abstract

411,969. Ventilating shaft and like tops. BROWN, C. W., Uralite House, and PANGBOURNE, S. F., Bound Rede, Villa Road, both in Higham, Kent. Feb. 3, 1933, No. 3383. [Class 25.] In a ventilator or shaft top of the kind comprising a terminal enclosed within a wind guard 7 and divided by vertical partitions 6 into a number of vertical sections 5 so that downdraught is confined to certain of the sections, the terminal is closed at its upper end as by a cap 2 and is provided with slots or louvred openings 3 in its sides in order to ensure that should any undue air pressure occur inside the wind guard on the windward side, air will tend to enter only through the openings on that side and will be confined to one or more sections, the other sections maintaining an updraught. The sides of the openings 3 are preferably provided with radial outwardly projecting vanes 4. A deflector 10 is provided below the wind guard 7. Figs. 2 and 3 show a form of ventilator constructed of sheet metal and Fig. 6 shows a modified form suitable for manufacture from materials which may be moulded or cast such as earthenware, asbestos cement or the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellactite."
