Abstract

427,904. Ventilators. MUIRHEAD, J., MUIRHEAD, D. P., and MUIRHEAD VENTILATORS, Ltd., 1276, Maryhill Road, Glasgow. Dec. 2, 1933, Nos. 33893 and 36561. [Class 137] A roof ventilator comprises a shaft of oblong formation extending from an opening 4, and having sides 3 projecting into a boxlike casing formed of end walls 6, a cap 7, and side walls 8 above which are louvres 13. Wind channels 15 lie between the walls 8 and sides 3. Baffles 18 to eliminate down draught are spaced from the walls 8 and extend below the lower edges of the walls, and overlap the openings 14 of the louvres. To deflect wind currents the sides 3 may be turned outwards at 3<a>, and the louvres extended inwards and turned upwards at 13<a>. Wind passing through the ventilator from one side to the other extracts vitiated air from the enclosure. As additional features, triangular blocks 21 may be secured to the sides 3, the upper faces 21<a> forming sloping surfaces to allow of water drainage, and the lower surfaces 21b deflecting outwards wind currents entering from below. Baffles 22 may also be provided to prevent air currents from entering directly the passage between the lower edge of the walls 8 and outer edge of the deflecting face 21<b>.
