[Class 100 (iii).] Ejecting and trimming typebars.-Means are provided for automatically adjusting the guidewalls, usually in the form of trimming-knives, between which the slug is ejected, in accordance with the casting-position of the matrix line, and hence with the size of the characters. The linetransporter or first elevator is arrested in different positions by a pair of stepped banking-bars D<4>, D<5>, Fig. 1, as described in Specification 396,045. The bars are secured to a plate D<6>, and are adjusted by means of a pinion D<9>, which engages rack teeth on the plate, and is provided with a dial and pointer. The plate D<6> carries another stepped bar 14 for adjusting the distance between the guide-walls G<1>, G<2>, Fig. 10, one or both of which may be provided with trimming-knives. The lefthand wall G<1> is stationary, and the right-hand wall G2 is adjusted by means of a lever 6, Fig. 1, to which is connected a link 11 carrying a roller, which rests on the stepped bar 14. A spring 16, connected to the wall G<2>, serves to hold the roller down on the bar, and can be disabled by means of a handle 17 on the lever 6. The lever can be disconnected from the guide-wall to permit the wall to be fully retracted by the spring 16. The right-hand wall H<2> of the shoot H leading to the galley is attached to, and adjustable with, the guide-wall G<2>.
