Abstract

411,137. Skid brakes. BORJYMSKY, T. M. VON, 32, Rue de Boulainvilliers, Paris. Dec. 1, 1932, No. 33991. [Class 103 (i).] A brake shoe 1 adapted to engage between the wheel of a road or rail vehicle and the track is mounted upon a pair of arms 10, 10<a> pivoted upon the wheel axle and each comprising a pair of sections hinged together at 12 which come into alignment when the shoe is raised by a cable 7 so that the shoe is then clear of the wheel. The end part 2 of the shoe is pivoted to the other part so that it can pivot upwardly in relation to that part. To ensure that the shoe is always raised to the same height the drum 9 upon which the cable 7 is wound may be driven by an electric motor 18, Fig. 5, the circuit of which includes in addition to the manual switch 19, a spring closed switch 21 which is automatically opened by a finger 22 engaged by a projection 23 on the drum 9. Or the drum may be driven by a handle 24, Fig. 7, through a chain 33 and a clutch 25 adapted to be disengaged by a bell-crank 27 and rod 29 engaged by a projection 30 on the drum. A shoe may be mounted in front of the front wheel and in front of the rear wheel on the opposite side. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 112,704 and 280,984, [both in Class 103 (i)].
