410,716. Combined transmitters and receivers. BAILEY, W. C., 27, The Grove, and RAY, R. E., Ray's Corner, Brighton Road, both in Coulsdon, Surrey. Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2153. [Class 40 (iv).] A combined transmitter and receiver of the type in which one side of a diaphragm is utilized for transmitting sound and the other side for receiving sound, comprises a casing a adapted to house a horseshoe magnet c with coils d and having a diaphragm e clamped thereto by a mouthpiece a<1>, a restricted chamber being formed behind the diaphragm by means of a composition f, such as " Chatterton's Compound," hard wax &c., the surface of which is substantially flush with the tops of the coils d. This restricted chamber communicates by way of passage b<3> with an ear trumpet b adapted to form a handle for the instrument, the passage b<3> being formed by an integra wall a<6> of the casing. The diaphragm is preferably clamped between castellations formed on the edge of the casing and a flange on the mouthpiece respectively.
