Abstract
410,337. Thermionic cathodes. ELIN AKT.-GES. FUR ELEKTRISCHE INDUSTRIE, 1, Volksgartenstrasse, Vienna. June 28, 1933, No. 18439. Convention date, July 23, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] The emissive surface of a cathode for vapour apparatus is formed by a continuous strip coated on one or both sides with active material which is so arranged that a section taken in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the apparatus exhibits a closed linear contour which is made up of successive parts and is capable of being bounded by a circumscribing circle and an inscribed circle and is so constituted that the length of one element from any one point of contact with the inscribed circle up to the next such point is less than double the diameter of the circumscribing circle. The cathode is surrounded by a heat shield. Fig. 4 shows one shape of emissive surface. The heating element 2 may be coated with insulation and surrounded by a protecting tube or left exposed and centred by strips 3 soldered across the ends of the cathode. Fig. 5 shows another shape, based on the involute, for the emissive surface. The cathode may have more than one heating element, or more than one emissive surface may be inserted in a common heatshield.
