Abstract
408,972. Vehicle - axle bearings. MATTHEWS, E. F., Elm Cottage, Watford Road, Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 18, 1932, No. 29172. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1931. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii).] An axle bearing has a bottom brass 4 supported by springs 11 from a frame rigidly fixed to the housing 6. The frame consists of transverse arms 7, 8 and longitudinal arms 9, 10 and rests at one end on projections 14 and at the other end on packing-pieces 15 supported by lugs 16, axial movement being prevented by ribs 18, 19 on the housing 6. The parts 7, 15 may be fastened together by a split pin 20. Between the brass 4 and journal 1 are wedgeshaped spaces 35, and lubricant is led thereto by wings 21 on the brass 4, the wings 21 catching lubricant dripping from the upper brass 3. Instead of the brass 4 lying between the arms 7, 8, as shown, it may be entirely above the frame. Further, the frame may also be supported at its centre on ribs formed in the bottom of the axle-box.
