Abstract
345,790. Vehicle-axle bearings. MATTHEWS, E. F., Elm Cottage, Watford Road, Wembley, Middlesex. March 3, 1930, No. 7008. [Class 12 (i).] In an axle-box provided with a lower brass 6 and in which lubricant drips on to the journal 1 from edges 2 arranged outside the running surface of the upper brass 12, the lower brass extends above the axis of the journal and has parallel sides 3, 4 fitting in the box. The lower brass rests on a member 7 adapted to be slid into the box and to be secured in position by a bolt 11 passing through a flange 9 on the member and a rib 10 in the box. The brass 6 is adjusted vertically by inserting packing strips above the member 7. Axial movement of the upper brass is prevented by flanges 13, 14, and relative axial movement between the two brasses is prevented by projections 15 on one brass which engage recesses 16 in the other.
