407,877. Cigarette - making machines. UNIVERSELLE CIGARETTENMASCHINEN FABRIK J. C. MULLER & CO., 48, Zwickauer Strasse, Dresden, Germany. Aug. 17, 1933, No. 23008. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1932. [Class 130.] Cigarettes are inserted laterally into a grooved drum by a device having a component of motion in the direction of feed of the cigarettes. In the construction shown, the cigarettes are fed from the cutting- machine by belts d, e having a greater speed than the cigarette rod, and are forced into the drum f by cams i, which may be provided with a facing to reduce the velocity of the cigarettes. An inclined swash plate p, provided with arms p<2> which project into the grooves through slots f aligns the cigarettes on the drum, in which they are retained by a metal sheet k until a finger n discharges them on to a belt o. In modified constructions, the cams are replaced (1) by a plate provided with a brake facing and driven by parallel cranks, or (2) by a belt inclined to the belts d, e and provided with fingers which push the cigarettes into the drum.
