1409814 Delivering cigarettes &c SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES 15 Nov 1972 52659/72 Heading A2C A rotary drum 2 for collecting double length cigarettes T issuing from a cigarette-making machine in a direction parallel to their longitudinal axes, is provided with equally spaced cigarette receiving channels 7 each having a stop 20 at its far end to check the movement of the cigarettes T, the stops 20 being freely moveable to a limited extent relative to the drum 2 in the direction of movement of the cigarettes T from an initial position at the instant of impact by the cigarettes T, and further includes a stationary ramp 23 for subsequently returning each stop 20 to its initial position. The stops 20 are preferably made of nylon and have a mass of the order of twice that of a cigarette length T. Suction, applied through ports 9 in the bottom of the channels 7, aids the braking of the cigarettes' movement. After positioning by the returning stop 20, the double length cigarette T 5 is bisected by a 'rotary knife 25 and, while the downstream part of the cut cigarette length is retained by suction applied through ports 10 in the bottom of its channel 7 6 , 7 7 &c, the other part T 6 ' is blown along the channel into engagement with a stationary projection 31 where suction applied through ports 11 retain it. The operative sector of the drum 2 is covered by two casings (29), 30, the latter of which carries the projection 31. The drum 2 is also suitable for use with other rod shaped articles such as tobacco-smoke filters.
